Balancing course in mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at the VŠPJ is preparing a mathematics course for August and September 2024, in which participants will review or deepen the high school mathematics curriculum covered at the VŠPJ. They will also learn simple mathematical procedures that are not compulsory in secondary schools.

This course is intended primarily for those who intend to apply to study Applied Computer Science, Tourism and Finance and Management (the technically oriented Applied Engineering and Applied Technology for Industrial Practice programmes have a Mathematics 0 course in Semester 1, which is similar to this course). In other majors, mathematics is represented as an elective or secondary to aid calculations in other courses.

In each lesson, we will focus on clarifying and practicing sample examples of parts of high school mathematics that are needed in further study. This will include elementary functions and their graphs, including various shifts, their definitional scopes and scopes of values, modifying expressions, practicing rules for calculations with powers and square roots, goniometric expressions and functions, exponential and logarithmic equations, etc.

Matrices, decompositions of polynomials, graphs of conics (analytic geometry) will be practiced from the material that is not compulsory in secondary schools, but for the knowledge of which university mathematics is not necessary. This material will be used extensively in the mathematics classes at the VŠPJ.

All participants will receive electronic study material.

Deadlines:

Scope: 20 class hours

Teaching style: face-to-face or distance (via ZOOM or MS Teams - good internet connection, microphone, speakers, possibly camera required)

Courses will open when full, i.e. 10-25 students.

Students who submit an application to our school and pay the fee associated with the application will receive a free preparatory course.
