Bridging course in mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava is preparing a mathematics course for August and September 2025, in which participants will review or deepen their knowledge of secondary school mathematics to prepare for the study of mathematics at the College of Polytechnics. They will also learn simple mathematical procedures that are not compulsory in secondary schools.

This course is intended primarily for those who intend to apply to study Applied Informatics, Travel and Tourism, and Finance and Management (the technically oriented Applied Mechanical Engineering and Applied Engineering programmes have a Mathematics 0 course in Semester 1, which is similar to this course). In other programmes, mathematics is an elective subject or a secondary aid for calculations in other courses.

In each lesson, we will focus on clarifying and practicing sample problems of parts of secondary school mathematics that are needed in further study. This will include elementary functions and their graphs, including various shifts, their domain and range, modifying expressions, practicing rules for calculations with powers and square roots, goniometric expressions and functions, exponential and logarithmic equations, etc.

From the material that is not compulsory in secondary schools, but for the knowledge of which university mathematics is not necessary, you will practice matrices, decompositions of polynomials, graphs of conics (analytic geometry). This material will be used extensively in the mathematics classes at the College of Polytechnics.

All participants will receive electronic study material.

Deadlines: 

• Mon 25 August – Thu 28 August 2025 – afternoons 15:30–19:15 – online
• Mon 1st, Tue 2nd, Thu 4th, Tue 9th, Wed 10th September 2025 – mornings 8:30–11:15 – hybrid (We prefer classroom form of teaching, but for those interested, the course will be accessible online via MS Teams.) 

Scope: 20 class hours

Teaching style: face-to-face or distance (via ZOOM or MS Teams - good internet connection, microphone, speakers, possibly camera required)

Courses will open when full, i.e. min.10 students.

Location (link): will be specified by email no later than two hours prior to the start of the course (a message will be sent to the enrolled students and received in their school email inbox)

Students who submit an application to our school and pay the fee associated with the application will study the bridging course for free.
