Department characteristics

The Department of Mathematics provides instruction across several degree programs and departments, with an emphasis on the practical application of mathematical, statistical, and computational tools in a variety of practice areas.

For the Department of Tourism and Economic Studies, we primarily provide instruction in mathematics and statistics, with a focus on economic applications, data handling, and interpretation in the tourism and management environment.

Within the technically oriented degree programmes, we provide instruction in mathematical disciplines (Mathematics, Linear Algebra), statistics for engineers, numerical methods, and other technical subjects that form the basis for students' analytical and technical thinking.

For the Department of Social Work, we implement the teaching of subjects focused on quantitative research and the fundamentals of computer science. This provides students with the skills needed to work with data, conduct research investigations, and evaluate them in the social field.

In collaboration with the Department of Health Studies, we provide instruction in courses focused on health informatics and statistical data processing, which are essential for orientation in health research and evidence-based practice.

The department also guarantees a wide range of professional courses, including applied statistics, mathematical methods in economics, financial and actuarial mathematics, biophysics, physics, and optics. Teaching is designed to meet the needs of individual study programmes while also developing students' analytical thinking, ability to work with information and data, and overall mathematical literacy.
