For the study programmes Finance and Management and Business Management and Economics, the Department of Mathematics provides the teaching of the following subjects, which provide students with the necessary theoretical foundations and practical skills for their further studies and professional application:

Mathematics

This course provides a basic understanding of differential and integral calculus and working with functions that are important for understanding economic relationships. Students learn analytical thinking and mathematical procedures useful in solving economic problems.

The curriculum focuses on applications in economics and provides a foundation for other professional courses.

Type: compulsory

Mathematics Seminar

This seminar is designed to supplement and reinforce the basic knowledge of mathematics necessary for successful completion of the course. It focuses on practising key topics and promoting students' confidence in solving problems.

Helps students bridge gaps in their initial knowledge and improve their readiness for other math and economics courses.

Type: elective

Introduction to ICT

This course introduces students to the basic tools of information and communication technology. Emphasis is placed on the practical use of office applications, working with data, the Internet and digital communication.

Students acquire the skills needed to work effectively with information and technology in economic practice.

Type: compulsory

Mathematical Methods in Economics

This course extends mathematical knowledge to include linear algebra, working with matrices, and the basics of optimization. Students learn to model and solve economic problems using mathematical methods, especially in linear programming.

The emphasis is on practical applications in decision making and optimization in economics.

Type: compulsory

Statistics

This course introduces students to statistical methods for analyzing economic data. Students learn how to process data, analyze dependencies, work with time series, and interpret results.

The students use the skills they have acquired in other courses, in their theses and in practice.

Type: compulsory

Financial and Actuarial Mathematics

This course focuses on mathematical methods used in finance and insurance. Students learn how to work with interest rates, the time value of money, investment calculations and modelling of insurance products.

The course focuses on practical applications in finance and insurance practice, including the use of tools such as MS Excel.
